The Scope of Work
Our client was looking for a classic and elegant flooring solution with character and durability. The chosen product: a small plank engineered oak, brushed and lacquered for texture, warmth, and long-lasting protection.
This project included a full preparation and installation service:
Ply boarding the Subfloor
We began by ply boarding the existing floor, creating a solid, level, and stable base for the engineered timber. This step is essential in achieving a smooth finish and supporting the structural integrity of the floor over time.
Establishing the Crown Row
As with all herringbone installations, accuracy is key. We set out a precise crown row, which acts as the central line and foundation for the entire herringbone pattern. This ensures a perfectly balanced and symmetrical layout throughout the room.
Filling the Field
Once the crown row was in place, we filled the field – laying each small plank in a traditional herringbone formation. The brushed surface of the oak adds texture and highlights the grain, while the lacquered finish provides a low-maintenance, hard-wearing surface suitable for modern living.
Creating and Installing the Border
To frame the room and elevate the finish, we added a detailed border around the perimeter. This involved:
Carefully cutting and routing the edges** to create clean lines
Precisely fitting each border piece around the field
Ensuring a seamless and professional finish throughout
Borders not only enhance the aesthetics of herringbone floors but also highlight the craftsmanship and care behind the work.
Fully Bonded Installation
The entire floor was fully bonded using a high-performance adhesive, ensuring a strong, stable, and long-lasting installation. This method is ideal for engineered wood flooring and helps to minimise movement while maximising the floor’s lifespan.
The Finished Result
The final result is a stunning combination of classic design and contemporary finish. The small plank brushed and lacquered oak adds warmth, character and sophistication, while the herringbone pattern and border provide structure and timeless appeal.
